Common scams happening right now

Fraudsters are constantly evolving their tactics. Here are a few of the most common scams to be aware of:
  • Phishing emails & texts
Messages that look like they’re from your bank or a trusted company asking you to click a link or verify information.
  • Phone scams (spoofing)
Calls that appear to come from your credit union or another trusted number — asking for personal or account details.
  • Payment scams
Requests to send money through gift cards, wire transfers, or payment apps.
  • Account alerts that create urgency
“Your account is locked” or “suspicious activity detected” messages designed to make you act quickly.

We will never ask for this

Lion’s Share Federal Credit Union will never contact you and ask for:

If you receive a call, text, or email asking for this information — it’s a scam.

Simple steps that make a big difference

  • Pause before you act
Scammers rely on urgency. Take a moment to verify before responding.
  • Don’t click suspicious links
Go directly to official websites instead.
  • Monitor your accounts regularly
Keep an eye on transactions and report anything unusual.
  • Use strong, unique passwords
Avoid reusing the same password across accounts.
One of the best ways to protect yourself? Freeze your credit.
If you’re not actively applying for credit, there’s no reason to leave your credit open and vulnerable.

Why it matters:

A credit freeze prevents new accounts from being opened in your name — even if someone has your personal information.

What to do:
You can place a free credit freeze with each of the three major credit bureaus:
  • Equifax
  • Experian
  • TransUnion
You can lift or remove the freeze anytime when you need to apply for credit.
